Giving and Receiving Feedback
One of the concepts that interested me the most was feedback. Feedback can be either negative or positive, and it can be given in different ways. Positive feedback is always good because it makes each person in the group feel validated for their effort and more determined to keep helping the group when they know they've done a good job. But negative feedback can have a negative impact on the group. However, this criticism or critiques can still be offered in a positive way. For example, someone in a group can give another group member criticism while being positive and constructive about it. When I was playing sports in high school, instead of screaming and criticizing me when I made a mistake, the coach would ask me "what were your other options," or "what do you think you could have done better?" This way, I didn't feel as bad about making a mistake, and it allowed me to be more thoughtful and creative. If I had been given negative feedback in a more discouraging manner, I would have probably been turned off and less effective or willing to contribute and be creative.

Thank you for sharing. I also found the subject of feedback interesting. I agree that sharing positive feedback does allow each member of the group to feel validated. Positive feedback allows the member to establish positive relationships within the group. Often working in groups there are times were negative feedback is necessary. I agree with you that negative feedback can still be given in a positive way. However constructive criticism or negative feedback, gives members of the group a chance to improve in areas they may need improvement in or a chance to help better contribute to the group. I really enjoyed your post and agree that feedback is a important aspect in small group communication. Thank you again for sharing and I really enjoyed your post.
ReplyDeleteHey Burgs :)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post and definitely agree with you on both ways to positively and negatively send and receive feedback. I have been in many positions to receive feedback as well as give it. I've played sports my whole life and like your coach, mine would give constructive criticism. It is way more helpful to be criticized in a positive-learning manner. It taught me a lot about the game and helped me learn from my mistakes to become a better player. On the side of giving feedback, I have trained and managed over forty people. Everyone learns differently and responds to direction and criticism in their own way. I am very patient and love to teach others so I truly enjoyed training them all, but I always put a positive spin on their mistake and made their improvement fun and rewarding! The balance between positive and negative feedback I think so important to maintaining a positive relationship.
Great post! Hope you've had a good weekend!

ReplyDeleteGreetings,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your post. Remind me of why i was asking feedback from others. I believe feedback is important. It helps improve guidance and confidence. We learn from our mistakes, so we can learn from our feedback as well. Both positive and negative we can improve ourselves in the future. My first communication studies class required us to record ourselves during speeches. This made me realize that I needed to improve from my speech and posture. Later, I started to ask feedback from my classmates in order to become confident with myself during in-class activities. I was able to land a few jobs in field marketing. I am confident in the work I do for the company’s – making sales.
